British Jewish Leaders Urge Immediate Increase in Gaza Aid

The UK’s largest Jewish organisation, the Board of Deputies, has called for a rapid increase in aid to Gaza, criticizing the Israeli government's response to the humanitarian crisis. Children are malnourished, parents are desperate, and the suffering demands a swift and sustained aid effort through all available channels.

Phil Rosenberg, the board’s president, emphasized the urgency of addressing the crisis and stressed that food should not be used as a weapon of war. The board had previously taken disciplinary action against representatives critical of Israel's actions in Gaza.

Former board president Marie van der Zyl and over 400 rabbis worldwide have urged the Israeli government to end the suffering in Gaza, condemning the mass killings and use of starvation as a weapon of war. Jewish leaders in the UK have called for immediate action to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

The board supports a two-state solution but is cautious about recognizing a Palestinian state without a negotiated agreement, aiming to avoid empowering Hamas or rewarding violence. The community rejects extremist rhetoric and violence, emphasizing the importance of upholding Jewish values.
