The Sindh department of colleges is worried about the frequent leave requests from college teachers, affecting the teaching process. A formal notice has been issued urging faculty to limit leaves to essential reasons only. The department emphasizes the need to maintain academic continuity for the upcoming academic session.

The Sindh department of colleges is concerned about the high number of leave requests from teachers, as reported by ARY News. The department has issued a formal notice expressing worry over the frequent leave applications from college teaching staff. The Secretary of Colleges has raised serious reservations about the increasing trend of unnecessary leaves during the academic term, cautioning that such absences could have a negative impact on the teaching process.
The circular emphasizes that faculty members should manage their personal commitments during winter vacations. It states that only essential leaves, such as those for medical reasons, maternity, Iddat, or emergencies, will be considered on a case-by-case basis. College principals and regional directors have been instructed to carefully review and assess leave applications from teaching staff. The notice also highlights the upcoming academic session starting on August 1, 2025, stressing the importance of maintaining academic continuity.
Last year, the education department instructed district education officers to stop the salaries of over 1000 absent teachers. A Scrutiny Committee report revealed that 1000 teachers in Sindh were absent from duty in October 2025. The committee was established to investigate the issue of ghost teachers following complaints in the province.
