Ozzy Osbourne is coming home to Birmingham following his death aged 76. The singer's cortege will visit Birmingham's Broad Street on Wednesday, July 30, with the beloved son of Birmingham being brought to the floral tributes left by fans at Black Sabbath bridge and bench.
The procession will bring Ozzy and his family down Broad Street at 1pm on Wednesday, accompanied by a live brass band. Bostin' Brass will mark Ozzy's final trip through the city before his private family funeral.
Security and associated costs of the procession are being covered by the Osbourne family. Fans of Ozzy and supporters of his family are invited to Broad Street to say goodbye to the Freeman of the City of Birmingham. Tributes and flowers have been left covering Black Sabbath bridge as thousands flock to the city to remember him.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, JP, said: \"Ozzy was more than a music legend - he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We're proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.\"
The council has thanked businesses and residents of Broad Street and the wider city centre for allowing the procession, as well as West Midlands Police and the West Midlands Metro. Broad Street will be closed to traffic from 7am and buses and trams will be diverted during this time. The procession is expected at 1pm and the road will reopen following the event. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early using public transport and stewards will be on hand to offer support.
