Mum, 36, Shocked by Cancer Diagnosis Without Typical Symptoms
Zara McCormick, 36, thought her fatigue and breathlessness were due to pregnancy, but a test revealed she had bowel cancer without the usual signs. She joined a clinical trial and responded well to immunotherapy treatment, becoming cancer-free after surgery. Zara now advocates for clinical trials to help others.

A 36-year-old mum, Zara McCormick, was diagnosed with life-threatening bowel cancer despite not having typical symptoms. Zara, from Gee Cross in Tameside, was saved by a new drug being tested out in a clinical trial. She had stage 3c bowel cancer with an MSI-H mutation, which is very responsive to immunotherapy treatment. Zara underwent three cycles of pembrolizumab, which significantly shrank her tumors. She had successful surgery and is now celebrating more than 18 months cancer-free. Zara encourages others to consider clinical trials as a viable treatment option. The NEOPRISM trial, which Zara participated in, has shown promising results in treating bowel cancer with immunotherapy.
