Philippines Thanks UAE for Pardoning 68 Detainees

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippines thanked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for pardoning 68 Filipino detainees during Eid al-Adha last month. The DFA stated that this act showcased the strong relationship between the two countries and brought relief to the families of the released individuals.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. mentioned in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) that over 600 convicted Filipinos have been pardoned in the last three years due to the positive diplomatic ties with host countries like UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain. He expressed gratitude to these nations for their compassion towards Filipino nationals.

The President also commended overseas Filipino workers for their contributions and kindness worldwide. He emphasized the country's foreign policy of being a friend to all and an enemy to none, which will be a focal point during the hosting of the ASEAN Summit in 2026.
