Indian Soldiers' Families to Receive Legal Aid Under New Scheme

New Delhi: The families of Indian soldiers will now receive proactive legal assistance through the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025. This initiative aims to ease legal burdens for troops in remote areas, ensuring their families' legal rights are protected while they serve at the borders.

According to NDTV, the programme will be launched today in Srinagar by Justice Surya Kant, the Executive Chairman of NALSA and the incoming Chief Justice of India. The event will be attended by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The scheme originated after Operation Sindoor, with Justice Surya Kant recognizing the need to support armed forces facing personal legal battles. The programme aims to assist soldiers posted in remote areas who struggle to manage legal cases back home.

Set to be inaugurated before Justice Kant becomes Chief Justice of India on November 24, the scheme will provide legal representation for soldiers dealing with property disputes, family matters, or land issues in their home states. NALSA will step in to support soldiers who cannot attend court proceedings due to constraints or lack of access.

This initiative will not only benefit the Indian Army but also paramilitary forces like the BSF, CRPF, ITBP, and other security units serving in high-risk or remote areas.
