Chris Paul Signs 1-Year Deal with LA Clippers for 21st NBA Season

After weeks of speculation, the LA Clippers have signed point guard Chris Paul to a one-year veteran’s minimum contract. Paul, a 20-year veteran, returns to the franchise where he played from 2011 to 2017.

Paul's previous tenure with the Clippers marked 14 consecutive winning seasons, the longest active streak in the NBA. Now, he aims to help the team secure a championship. A 12-time All-Star and member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team, Paul will serve as a reserve to his former Houston Rockets teammate James Harden.

This is expected to be Paul’s final NBA season as he expressed his intention to play for at most one more year. After stints with five different teams post-Clippers, Paul desired to play his farewell season closer to home in Los Angeles.

Clippers president Lawrence Frank confirmed the team's strong consideration of signing Paul, emphasizing his qualities as a player and a Clipper. Paul's addition is seen as a boost to the team's backcourt playmaking and ballhandling abilities.

With Paul joining the Clippers' roster, the team now boasts a strong reserve unit alongside 2021 NBA champion Brook Lopez. The team also welcomes new additions Bradley Beal and John Collins, potentially as starters.
