NDRRMC warns public about falling debris from China's Long March 8A rocket

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has issued a warning to the public regarding potential debris resulting from China's launch of the Long March 8A rocket on Wednesday.

The NDRRMC stated that the People's Republic of China is set to launch the Long March 8A from the Wenchang Space Launch Site between 3:41 p.m. and 4:18 p.m. Philippine Standard Time on July 30, 2025.

According to the NDRRMC, parts of the rocket may land in the designated drop zone, located about 120 nautical miles from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, and 42 nautical miles from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur.

The Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources - National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (DENR - NAMRIA) have been urged to impose temporary restrictions and issue relevant warnings in the identified drop zones.

Additionally, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils in MIMAROPA and Region IX have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.

PhilSA has advised against approaching or handling any debris to avoid potential exposure to hazardous materials like rocket fuel. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is recommended if contact with the debris is unavoidable.

The public is encouraged to report any suspected debris found at sea or on land to local authorities promptly.
