Hands-On Computing Summer Camps at Dundalk IT for Secondary Students
Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) hosted 80 secondary school students for practical computing workshops in Scratch, Web Development, Programming, and Games Development. Led by DkIT's Computing Departments, the camps provided a glimpse into future opportunities and areas of study. Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) recently hosted 80 secondary school students for practical computing workshops in Scratch, Web Development, Programming, and Games Development.
Two groups of 40 students attended a three-day event to explore the facilities and future opportunities at DkIT. The camps, led by the Computing Departments and Retention and Recruitment Officer Niall Dowd, included student mentors from various computing courses like Gracie Chaudhary, Elizabeth Tuzhilina, Ryan Habis, and Jeremy Meadows.
Attendees experienced the four subject areas over two days and then focused on their preferred area on the final day. They worked on personal projects with mentors and showcased their work to peers at the end of the camp.
Retention and Recruitment Officer Niall Dowd expressed his satisfaction with the event, highlighting the enthusiasm of student tutors and the interest shown by the attendees in software, web, and games development.
