Qantas has revealed a suspected cybercriminal has made contact just days after a major data breach. At least 6 million customers had their data compromised last week after hackers targeted a call centre and gained access to a third-party platform. In a statement today, the airline confirmed a cybercriminal has made contact and Qantas was working to validate their authenticity. Qantas has revealed cyber criminals have made contact just days after a major data breach. 'As this is a criminal matter, we have engaged the Australian Federal Police and won't be commenting any further on the detail of the contact,' a Qantas spokesperson said. 'There is no evidence that any personal data stolen from Qantas has been released but, with the support of specialist cyber security experts, we continue to actively monitor.' A spokesperson for the AFP confirmed it was investigating. 'The airline has been highly engaged in assisting authorities and the AFP with investigating this incident,' the spokesperson said. 'Further comment will be provided at an appropriate time.' Data affected in last week's breach included names, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays and frequent flyer numbers. Qantas said credit card details, personal financial information and password details were not held in the breached system and therefore have not been compromised.
