Thailand accuses Cambodia of breaking ceasefire deal

Thailand has accused Cambodia of violating a ceasefire agreement just hours after it was established to end border clashes that resulted in casualties and displacements. The ceasefire aimed to halt five days of bombardment and rocket attacks along their shared border. Despite the ceasefire, Thailand claims to have received gunfire from the Cambodian side after midnight. However, Cambodia's defense ministry denies any armed clashes since the ceasefire began.

Local commanders from both countries met as part of the ceasefire agreement, agreeing to cease shooting, halt troop movements, and allow the retrieval of the deceased. Tensions over the disputed border escalated in May, leading to a full-scale conflict last week. The situation intensified with border closures, diplomatic actions, and civilian casualties. The ceasefire deadline saw continued military exchanges, but Cambodia's Prime Minister noted a reduction in frontlines tensions.

Both countries are expected to withdraw troops and accept independent monitoring under the ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire talks were facilitated by Malaysian leader Anwar Ibrahim, following pressure from the US to end the conflict.
