Singapore ready to support Gaza reconstruction after ceasefire

Singapore is prepared to contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza once a permanent ceasefire agreement is reached. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' deputy secretary for Asia-Pacific delivered Singapore's statement at a United Nations conference supporting the Egypt-proposed Arab Reconstruction Plan for Gaza. The plan aims to sideline Hamas and rejects the US proposal for mass displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Singapore has publicly supported Egypt's proposal for the first time, while it has been rejected by the US and Israel.

Singapore has contributed over US$17 million in assistance to alleviate humanitarian suffering in Gaza. It is considering deploying a medical team to treat patients from Gaza and supporting the Palestinian Authority's capacity-building efforts through an Enhanced Technical Assistance Package. Singapore will increase scholarships for Palestinians to study in its universities and launch new initiatives to train Palestinian Civil Police officers and share experiences in public administration and governance.
