Leon Marchand Breaks Ryan Lochte's Record; Luca Urlando Wins Gold at World Aquatics Championships 2025
French swimmer Leon Marchand sets a new record in the 200m individual medley, surpassing Ryan Lochte's previous mark. Meanwhile, Luca Urlando secures gold in the 200m butterfly, marking a significant achievement for Team USA.

It's not a surprise that France's Léon Marchand is one of the best swimmers in the world. Marchand won four gold medals at the 2024 Olympics, establishing himself as a dominant force in the sport.
Marchand set a new standard in the 200m individual medley by beating and surpassing Ryan Lochte's record by more than a second with a time of 1:52.69 during the semifinals. Lochte's previous record was 1:54.00 set in 2011.
Marchand, a two-time World Championships gold medalist in the event, will aim for his third gold in the final.
Luca Urlando won gold in the 200m butterfly, becoming the first American man to achieve this since Michael Phelps in 2011. Urlando's time of 1:51:87 beat his competitors from Poland and Australia.
Jack Alexy set a new American record in the 100m freestyle with a time of 46.81 during the prelims, narrowly beating Caeleb Dressel's record. Alexy will compete in the final, aiming for a medal.
