Mairead McGuinness Leads in Potential Irish Presidential Election Candidates Poll

Mairead McGuinness leads in the latest Irish Times/Ipsos B&A opinion poll as the preferred candidate for the presidential election. She was favored by 14% of respondents. However, the poll indicates that no candidate has captured the public's imagination yet.

Among the potential candidates, Mairead McGuinness received 14% support, followed by Independent TD Catherine Connolly at 9% and Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald at 8%. Other candidates such as Bertie Ahern and Micheál Martin received lower percentages.

The poll also revealed that voters are divided on whether they prefer the next president to be a current or former politician or someone from a non-political background. Additionally, the survey assessed the performance of Ministers, with Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe receiving high approval ratings.

The poll also gathered opinions on the next leaders of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and Sinn Féin, with notable preferences for individuals such as Jim O’Callaghan, Pearse Doherty, and Paschal Donohoe.

The survey highlighted Minister for Housing James Browne as the worst performer, with a majority of voters expressing dissatisfaction with his job performance.

The poll was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults across various constituencies, with an estimated accuracy of plus or minus 2.8%.
