A woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her co-worker with scissors at the InterContinental Sydney hotel. The incident occurred at 2.20am on Saturday, leading to emergency services being called to the scene on Macquarie Street.
The victim, a 30-year-old woman, sustained stab wounds to her upper body and was taken to St Vincent’s hospital for surgery. Another woman, aged 27, was also injured while trying to intervene and was hospitalized as well.
The 31-year-old suspect, who worked with the victims at the hotel, was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and assault. The weapon used in the attack was a pair of scissors, and the altercation took place in a back office area away from the public.
Chief inspector Gary Coffey mentioned that the motive behind the crime was unclear but suggested a work-related dispute might have triggered the incident. He described the attack as 'frenzied' and emphasized the fortunate prevention of a more severe outcome.
The suspect was denied bail and is scheduled to appear before Parramatta local court on Sunday. InterContinental declined to comment on the matter.
