John Torode fired as MasterChef host over racist language allegation

John Torode has been sacked as MasterChef presenter after an allegation against him using 'an extremely offensive racist term' was upheld. The TV chef said he had 'no recollection' of the incident and denied it happened. However, the show's production company Banijay UK announced that his contract will not be renewed. This decision comes after more than 40 separate allegations against Torode's co-host Gregg Wallace were also upheld.

The controversy began last year when claims of inappropriate sexual language against Wallace surfaced. Wallace was sacked as more allegations emerged. John Torode's racist language allegation was investigated and substantiated by an independent investigation. Torode denies the allegation and stated that racial language is unacceptable in any environment. The BBC takes the finding seriously and will not tolerate racist language.

Earlier, BBC director general Tim Davie addressed the controversy, affirming that the show has a future beyond individuals. The fate of the unseen series, filmed with both Wallace and Torode, remains uncertain.

In an Instagram post, Torode acknowledged the racist language allegation and apologized for any offense caused. He emphasized that he condemns racial language and expressed shock and sadness over the allegation.
