A landowner in Co Kildare allegedly tipped over an ESB tractor with the driver inside to stop tree trimming that could lead to major blackouts. The incident occurred during a dispute over access to the land for maintenance work on power lines.

A landowner allegedly overturned a tractor with the driver inside to stop ESB contractors from cutting down trees that could cause blackouts. The incident took place in the High Court where Tom O'Shea from Co Kildare interfered with tree trimming efforts on his land. ESB had the statutory power to access the land for maintenance work.
Mr. O'Shea threatened to pull down the power line if ESB did not leave within an hour. He then used his digger to tip over the tractor with the driver inside. Police were called, and Mr. O'Shea was arrested. The ESB needed access to ensure safety and maintenance of power lines serving thousands of customers.
The court granted permission to proceed with legal action against Mr. O'Shea due to the urgency of the situation.
