Driver gets less than 14 years for fatal Christmas crash that killed mother and daughter

A speeding driver has been sentenced to 13 years and three months in prison for causing the death of a mother and daughter in a tragic Christmas accident. Mohammed Ibrahim, 25, was racing another car at speeds of up to 84mph in a 30mph zone when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a car carrying four generations of one family. The crash resulted in the deaths of Amanda Riley, 49, and Linda Philips, 72, despite efforts to save them at the scene. Judge Paul Farrer KC condemned Ibrahim, stating that he knew the consequences of his actions. The court heard that Ibrahim's reckless driving caused severe injuries to other family members and extensive damage to both vehicles involved.

Video evidence presented in court showed Ibrahim's car speeding past a bus before the collision. The court was informed that Ibrahim fled the scene after the crash but was later apprehended. Three relatives of the victims shared emotional statements in court, expressing the profound impact of the tragedy on their family. Ibrahim, who pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the incident, had no prior criminal record and was described as leading a positive life before the accident.
