Senate to Vote on Continuing VP Sara Impeachment Trial
The Senate impeachment court will decide whether to proceed with the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte after the Supreme Court ruled the Articles of Impeachment unconstitutional. The Senate received the SC decision and is set to vote on the next steps.

The Senate impeachment court will vote on whether to proceed with the deliberations after receiving the Supreme Court's ruling on the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte. Senate Impeachment Court spokesperson Regie Tongol confirmed that they received the SC decision on July 25, 2025, and will vote on it moving forward. The SC declared the Articles of Impeachment as unconstitutional and violating due process, but noted that Duterte is not absolved from the charges. Any new impeachment complaint can only be filed after February 6, 2026. The Senate Impeachment Court is obligated to respect the SC's rulings. Some senators believe the trial can still proceed despite the SC's decision. Three impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte in December 2024, related to alleged misuse of confidential funds. Duterte pleaded 'not guilty' in response to the verified impeachment complaint.
