Johor Government to Revoke Licences of Car Washes Serving Only Foreign Customers

Local authorities in Johor have been instructed to revoke the business licences of car wash operators who refuse to serve locals and cater only to foreign customers. State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor expressed concern over a car wash outlet in Johor that was allegedly serving only vehicles from Singapore. He emphasized that local councils will investigate such businesses and take strict action if the practice persists.

Jafni stated that prioritizing foreign customers over locals for profit reasons will not be tolerated. He emphasized the importance of considering the needs of the local community and fulfilling corporate social responsibility. The state government is prepared to take action against business operators who neglect locals.

He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Johor Property Expo (JPEX) 2025 at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall. Jafni reminded business owners in Johor to balance profit-seeking with fulfilling CSR and not overlooking locals. He drew parallels with the Johor Affordable Housing Scheme, where developers are expected to contribute by building affordable homes.

Social media reports highlighted a car wash outlet allegedly rejecting local customers and exclusively serving vehicles with Singapore registration plates.
