A couple in Singapore who operated multiple F&B companies were fined for not paying over 100 employees their salaries. Sim Ling Zhen, 31, and Wu Wenchun, 37, were fined S$72,000 each. If they don't pay, they face 66 weeks in prison. They were charged with 24 salary offences and pleaded guilty to 12. The affected employees worked at Royal Cuisine Group, Yanxi, and Healthy Meals Catering, owed S$432,000 with only S$73,000 paid.
Sim and Wu managed these companies and various catering services like Tingkat Singapore and Angel Confinement Meals. They started owing salaries in August 2022, and the companies closed in December due to unpaid rent. Employees were left unpaid for up to three months. Despite help offers, Sim and Wu were uncooperative.
Most affected workers found new jobs with assistance from TADM and e2i. MOM emphasized the seriousness of salary non-payment and will take strict action against offenders. Employers can be fined up to S$15,000, jailed for six months, or both for not paying salaries.
