Pakistani Army Chief Visits China to Strengthen Ties, Meets Vice President and Top Military Official

Pakistan army chief Asim Munir, on his first visit to China after being promoted as field marshal, met with top Chinese leaders to discuss enhancing cooperation across various sectors. Munir held discussions with V-P Han Zheng, general Zhang Youxia, and foreign minister Wang Yi. This visit follows India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, during which Pakistan utilized military equipment from China. Munir's visit to China also comes after his trip to Washington to strengthen ties with the US, Beijing's strategic rival.

Simultaneously, Pakistan's foreign minister Ishaq Dar visited Washington to meet US secretary of state Marco Rubio. The Chinese leadership praised Pakistan armed forces as a key element of resilience and a significant contributor to peace in South Asia. Both sides expressed contentment with the depth of bilateral engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and regional stability.
