Two Class 10 Students Found Pregnant at Government School in Odisha

In a surprising turn of events, two Class 10 students from a government residential school in Odisha's Kandhamal district were found pregnant, as per police sources on Friday. The discovery was made during a routine health checkup at the school, raising concerns across the State.

The incident was reported to the local police by hostel authorities, leading to investigations at Kotagad and Belghar police stations. The police are looking into the circumstances of the pregnancies and trying to identify those responsible.

According to sources, the girls returned to school after the summer vacation and were found pregnant. Cases were registered at Kotagad and Belghar police stations (No-103/2025 and No-64/2025, respectively).

Police are investigating how the students became pregnant, with a senior officer stating that both stations are actively looking into the matter.

Earlier, two girls from Class 9 and Class 8 were found pregnant on July 19 at government-run residential schools in Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts. The pregnancies were discovered during routine checkups after the girls showed suspicious behavior and complained of illness post-summer vacation.

In the Mayurbhanj case, the girl admitted to having a consensual relationship with a minor boy from her village during the vacation. The school authorities informed the girl's mother, who filed an FIR at Bangiriposi police station, leading to the questioning of the accused boy.

In the Kandhamal case, the pregnancy was noticed when the hostel matron observed that the Class 9 student had not collected her sanitary napkins after the vacation. A medical examination confirmed the pregnancy, and the girl's family was informed. A formal complaint was lodged at Tumudibandh police station by the school headmaster.
