This is the face of an asylum seeker who raped a 12-year-old girl above a shop after telling her the streets were not safe. Mohammed Wahid Mohammed, a 22-year-old Syrian national, was working illegally at Villa Supermarket in Handsworth when the victim, who had run away from home, was brought to the store by a homeless woman. He groomed her with a vape, crisps, and a fizzy drink before raping her.
Afterwards, the girl was rescued at a nearby takeaway by an Asian family. Wahid Mohammed was sentenced to 12 years in prison with an extended five-year licence at Birmingham Crown Court. He wept during his hearing and was described as a 'dangerous' offender by the judge.
The incident took place when the girl left her home and ended up in Birmingham city centre. Wahid Mohammed coaxed her into the shop under false pretenses and sexually abused her before being confronted by the Asian family. He initially claimed the girl had consented, but later admitted to the crimes.
