The first static safety speed camera in Dublin city will become operational next week. It will be located on Dolphin’s Barn in Dublin 12, alongside the Maxol garage on the Crumlin Road. The camera will start operating from Friday, 1 August.
A garda spokesperson mentioned that Dolphin’s Barn was chosen based on a national analysis identifying it as a road that could benefit from a safety camera. The selection was made considering fatal and serious injury collision data from the past seven years, speed data, and feedback from stakeholders.
Vehicles exceeding the speed limit will face prosecution starting from 12pm on Friday, 1 August. Speeding offences will be prosecuted through Fixed Charge Notices, with a €160 fine and three penalty points.
Dublin City Council expressed satisfaction with the introduction of the first static speed camera in the Council area. The Council collaborated closely with An Garda Síochána to facilitate the camera's installation and initial operation. They emphasized their commitment to working together on road safety measures to enhance safety for everyone.
