Conflict Escalation Leads to Rising Death Toll and Mass Exodus

Both sides have sought diplomatic support to end the conflict, claiming self-defence and urging negotiations. Malaysia, chair of ASEAN, offered to mediate. Australia and Britain issued travel advisories for border regions. Villagers fled as fighting intensified, seeking shelter in Thailand. Evacuees described the violence as frightening and unexpected. Some refused to leave their homes despite the conflict.

Thailand and Cambodia have long disputed their border, with ownership of ancient temples central to the conflicts.
