Trueshan, Popular Veteran Racehorse, Suffers Fatal Injury at Goodwood Cup
Trueshan, a beloved stayer in the racing world, tragically sustained a fatal injury during the Goodwood Cup, which was won by Scandinavia. Trained by Alan King and often ridden by Hollie Doyle, Trueshan had notable victories in prestigious races, including Prix du Cadran. His career was marked by remarkable performances and significant wins, earning over £2 million in prize money. The racing community mourns the loss of this talented horse.

Trueshan suffered a fatal injury in the Goodwood Cup won by Scandinavia. The popular stayer enjoyed one of his finest moments at the track when landing the same race in 2021, while he struck in two more Group 1 races when landing the Prix du Cadran in 2021 and 2023.
Trueshan was trained in Wiltshire by Alan King and was primarily ridden by Hollie Doyle, who struck up a golden partnership with the gelding. Trueshan began his career when ridden by Doyle's husband Tom Marquand at Nottingham in 2018.
He was a regular in the top staying contests and put up a staggering weight-carrying performance when landing the Northumberland Plate in 2022, carrying 10st 8lb and defying a rating of 120.
The BHA's director of equine health and welfare James Given said: \"What has happened, unfortunately, is an accident mid-race in a straight line going up the hill. His left-hind pastern broke, which left him in a situation that wasn't recoverable from. Alan was able to get down there and assess him with the vets and they felt there was no option really but to put him down.\"
Trueshan won over £2 million in prize-money for his owners the Singula Partnership.
