Police Raid Three Hair Salons in Geylang and Joo Chiat for Illegal Activities

The police conducted raids on three salons in Geylang on June 27. These enforcement operations targeted hair salons and public entertainment outlets in Geylang and Joo Chiat, resulting in the arrest of 20 individuals and investigation of six others.

During the raids, plainclothes officers caught women offering unlicensed massage services at one salon. Several men were found receiving these services during the raid, which was the first operation observed by the media at such outlets.

Following identity checks, it was noted that some of the women appeared to be Singapore permanent residents. These salons typically have a front that resembles a regular salon, while the back area contains massage stations with beds separated by thin dividers.

The shop where the police raid was observed had massage beds, hair washing beds, and foot massage recliners. At least seven women were working at the time of the raid.

These salons have been suspected of operating as fronts for vice activities, exploiting loopholes in existing regulations. Some operators have attempted to bypass licensing requirements by branding their outlets as beauty and hair salons.

The police also conducted raids on public entertainment outlets to crack down on touting, vice, and drug-related activities. A total of 12 women were arrested for working without valid work passes, and additional arrests were made for drink driving and drug-related offences.

Offenders face penalties including imprisonment and fines for offenses such as providing unlicensed massages and working without valid work passes.
