A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental on June 28, 2025, located 85 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. Local disaster authorities conducted damage assessment after the earthquake hit on Saturday morning. Mr. Harley Sauro, from the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO) in Sarangani, mentioned that residents felt the quake strongly but no damage was reported based on the initial assessment. The epicenter was 85 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.
The assessment focused on school buildings, road infrastructure, and public government facilities. Residential areas in the 12 barangays in Sarangani showed no damage. Sauro advised residents to stay vigilant for potential aftershocks. Evacuation sites were prepared in case of a pre-emptive evacuation, although no evacuation order has been issued by the local government so far. Relief goods have been prepositioned for immediate response if needed.
