The deal includes a player option, and Ayton will earn $34 million next season between Portland and L.A. His agents reached the deal with Lakers president Rob Pelinka. Ayton finalized a buyout with the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, citing his desire to play in a winning situation. In Los Angeles, Ayton will partner with fellow 2018 top pick Luka Doncic. Ayton cleared free agency waivers and chose the Lakers over other interested teams like the Pacers, Knicks, Clippers, Bucks, Cavaliers, and Nuggets. Ayton, who turns 27 on July 23, averaged 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 56.6% last season. He is known for his consistent performance over the years and was named to the 2018-19 All-Rookie Team.
