Neil Druckmann to Leave 'The Last of Us' Before Season 3

And you thought Joel was going to be The Last of Us‘ biggest loss going into Season 3.

Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the HBO series and the video games it's based on, announced his departure from the day-to-day operation of the series. He stated, \"I’ve made the difficult decision to step away from my creative involvement in The Last of Us on HBO.\" This decision comes after completing work on Season 2 and before starting on Season 3, allowing him to focus on Naughty Dog and their future projects.

Druckmann expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on the show and collaborate with the cast and crew. He also mentioned his excitement for HBO and PlayStation Productions to continue Ellie and Abby’s story in the next season.

While Druckmann will no longer write or direct Season 3 episodes, he will retain his title as co-creator and executive producer. Craig Mazin, his creative partner, praised Neil's work and expressed eagerness for his next game.

HBO renewed the show for Season 3, with a Season 4 renewal pending. Mazin hinted that Season 3 might not be enough to complete the story, suggesting more seasons could follow.
