Government to Include AI in School Curriculum for Digital Learning

The move is part of a broader initiative to transform Islamabad into a smart city using emerging technologies. The Ministry of IT is also focusing on expanding digital connectivity and improving access to education and healthcare through technology.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be included in school curriculums. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the development of Islamabad into a smart city using advanced technologies.
The Ministry of IT is working on expanding digital connectivity and enhancing access to education and healthcare. Fiber optic connectivity has been funded for public schools, Basic Health Units (BHUs), and healthcare centers in Islamabad. The goal is to fully fiberize hospitals, schools, and police stations in the capital within the next six to eight months.
Free public Wi-Fi will be provided at specific locations through public-private partnerships. The Ministry of Education is collaborating to bring EdTech solutions to remote regions for continuous learning. AI and other emerging technologies will be introduced from kindergarten to grade six to ensure universal access to education.
The smart education model will be extended to remote areas like Gilgit-Baltistan. The Ministry of IT is working with the Ministry of Health on a national healthcare initiative. Internet access at BHUs will enable telemedicine for online consultations with medical experts.
The government is focusing on digital literacy and IT capacity-building. A special committee has been formed to integrate IT education into the national curriculum. The goal is to train 500,000 youth in advanced digital skills with support from Google, Huawei, and Microsoft.
AI education will start at the primary level to prepare students for the digital economy. The government aims to build a competitive national IT workforce through coordinated efforts.
