Former Pogo Workers Involved in Online Scams, but Cases Decreasing

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) mentioned that former Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) employees running online scams independently is not a major concern. The number of online scam cases is actually on the decline. PNP-ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang highlighted that while the scammers' methods remain similar, they have developed a structured approach to carry out these scams. The main goal for them is to make money. The agency reported arresting 608 individuals for cybercrimes between December 2024 and June 2025, with only seven of them being foreigners. President Ferdinand R. Former Pogo Workers Involved in Online Scams, but Cases Decreasing

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) stated that it is not alarming that former Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) workers are now operating online scams independently. The agency mentioned that cases of online scams are declining.

PNP-ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang made this comment in an interview at Camp Crame. He previously mentioned that most online scams came from former Pogo employees who had started running schemes independently. Yang stated that compared to previous years, the cases of online scams are decreasing.

According to Yang, the scammers' methods are similar, but they have developed a format for conducting online scams to earn money.

The PNP-ACG director reported that their unit arrested 608 individuals between December 20, 2024, and June 20, 2025, for various cybercrimes. Among those arrested, seven were foreigners.

Last April, former Pogo workers were reported to have retrieved devices from scam hubs for personal use or resale. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the ban on Pogos in his State of the Nation Address last July due to disorder caused by scam hubs.
