Two Japanese teachers arrested for sharing inappropriate photos of schoolgirls
Two teachers in Japan were arrested for sharing photos of girls' underwear in a group chat with other teachers. The incident has caused shock in the country, leading to plans for a national background check system for those working with children. If convicted, the teachers could face prison time or a fine. The case has raised concerns about child safety and the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents.

Japan’s education chief expressed anger after the arrests of two teachers who shared photos of girls’ underwear in a group chat involving nearly 10 teachers. The case has shocked Japan, which will introduce a national background check system for sex offenders working with children next year.
The arrested teachers, aged 42 and 37, could face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to $21,000 if convicted. They were separately arrested for taking and sharing photos of girls’ underwear in the group chat, knowing the girls were under 13.
Police sources revealed that the group, managed by the 42-year-old teacher, had around 10 teacher members. Approximately 70 photos and videos were shared, some taken at school or during extracurricular activities, including girls changing clothes.
Education Minister Toshiko Abe condemned the incident, calling it intolerable. The ministry plans to prevent similar incidents through online meetings with local education boards. An elementary school in Nagoya, where one of the teachers worked, held a meeting with over 270 concerned parents.
Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa described the crimes as unthinkable and expressed sorrow and anger. Japan is set to launch its own background check system next year to safeguard children from sexual assault, similar to the UK’s Disclosure and Barring Service.
