Microsoft to Cut 9,000 Jobs Globally, Including Hundreds in Ireland
Tech giant Microsoft is set to lay off nearly 4% of its global workforce, affecting 9,000 employees worldwide. In Ireland, around 240 jobs could be at risk due to the cuts. This move follows previous layoffs by the company to streamline operations.

Global tech giant Microsoft will lay off just under 4% of its workforce in a new round of job cuts, affecting 9,000 of its 228,000 workers globally. The company employs around 4,000 people in Ireland, with an additional 2,000 at its subsidiary, Linkedin. If the cuts are applied uniformly, around 240 jobs in Ireland could be affected. This news follows Intel's announcement of up to 195 job cuts at its Kildare plant. The Department of Enterprise confirmed the receipt of a collective redundancy notification from Microsoft, indicating at least 30 jobs are at risk.
Collective redundancies occur when a significant number of employees are laid off within a specific timeframe. Microsoft stated that the layoffs are part of organisational changes to enhance success in the market. This move comes after the company previously cut over 6,000 jobs in May and June to streamline operations by reducing managerial layers.
