Irish Rail Worker Awarded €12k for Unfair Dismissal

An Iarnród Éireann worker, Liam Óg Lynch, has won €12,000 for unfair dismissal after taking control of a crane to prevent a dangerous situation. Despite acting with bravery, he was denied reinstatement by Iarnród Éireann. The incident occurred in March 2023 at a plant producing concrete sleepers for the Cork main line. Mr Lynch operated the crane without permission, leading to an injury. His union argued he acted to minimize danger. The disciplinary process resulted in his dismissal, deemed unfair by the adjudication officer.
