Nothing Phone 3 to Get Android 16 Update This Autumn, Confirms CEO Carl Pei
The Nothing Phone 3, which currently runs on Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15, will be upgraded to Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 later this autumn. CEO Carl Pei hinted at the upcoming update during the recent launch event, suggesting that Nothing smartphones may soon join Pixel devices in receiving the latest Android version.

The Nothing Phone 3 was launched in India with Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15. During the launch event, the UK-based startup hinted at the upcoming Android 16 update. Google released Android 16 last month, initially for Pixel devices. However, the teaser suggests that Nothing smartphones may soon receive the update too.
CEO Carl Pei mentioned in the launch video that the Nothing Phone 3 comes with Nothing OS 3.5 and teased the arrival of Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 later this autumn, likely between September to November. This update is anticipated to make the Nothing Phone 3 the first from the company to run on Android 16.
Google introduced Android 16 after the I/O 2025 event, but only Pixel phones have received the stable build so far. Other manufacturers are still testing the beta version. Carl Pei's hint suggests that Nothing might soon follow suit.
Previously, Nothing OS 3.0, based on Android 15, was revealed in September and entered open beta a month later before its public release in December. The update quickly reached all Nothing phones. A similar timeline is expected for the launch of Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 this autumn.
