Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Felipe, 26, who plays for Penafiel football club in Portugal, died in a traffic accident in Zamora, Spain. The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed the information.

Jota and his brother were traveling on the A52 highway through Cernadilla municipality when their Lamborghini may have suffered a tire burst while overtaking, leading to a fatal crash. Despite efforts from emergency services, they could not be saved.

Jota had recently gotten married and leaves behind three children. He joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton and won three titles with the club. He also had a brief spell with Atletico Madrid before moving to Wolverhampton permanently.

Portugal's Prime Minister and the president of the football association expressed deep condolences for the loss of the two footballers. The Portuguese football federation requested a minute's silence before the national team's match in honor of the players.
