A drug-affected car thief, Reagan Ainslie Chown, was convicted of manslaughter for running over and killing Constable Anthony Woods while trying to escape arrest. Chown, 25, was sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison, with a minimum term of 13 years and six months by the Western Australian Supreme Court.

Constable Woods' mother, Natalie, expressed her grief over the loss of her son, describing him as full of life and ambition. Chown, under the influence of methamphetamine, fled from police in a stolen car and fatally injured Woods during the escape attempt.

Justice Joseph McGrath stated that Chown's actions were deliberate, as he ignored the officer's commands and intended to flee. Despite Chown's argument that the Taser caused him to lose control of the car, the court found him responsible for the tragic incident.

Constable Woods, who had recently completed his probation, was mourned by thousands at Perth's Optus Stadium. Chown, initially charged with murder, was ultimately convicted of manslaughter, stealing the car, and reckless driving to escape police.
