New Astronomy Series for Adults Launching at Melbourne Planetarium - Explore the Night Sky with Talks and Stargazing

If you love stargazing or you feel star struck by space, Scienceworks has a new series that will help you uncover the wonders of the cosmos. Get ready to Discover The Night Sky in all its glory in this new monthly event for adults only. Taking place on the last Thursday of each month, you’ll learn about a different topic each time at Melbourne Planetarium, hosted by astronomer Dr Tanya Hill. The first event will kick off this month, on July 31.

Discover The Night Sky at Melbourne Planetarium

Learn about lunar eclipses, take a closer look at Saturn and more with these nocturnal events. Each session will blend science and storytelling with dazzling visuals, projected onto the 16-metre domed screen of the Planetarium. Sink into the reclining chair, and learn all about exoplanets, the Milky Way, black holes and more.

Go a little further with expert talks and Q&A sessions. If the weather allows, there will also be telescope viewings on the Scienceworks Arena, guided by amateur astronomers.

Doors open from 7pm, and the Galaxy Bar will be serving up drinks and light snacks.

Here is the schedule:

July 31 – Discover the Heart of the Milky Way

August 28 – September’s Lunar Eclipse: Everything you need to know

September 25 – Saturn Returns: A Closer Look at the Ringed Planet

October 30 – James Webb Space Telescope: Three years of science observations

November 27 – A Tour of the Night Sky’s Brightest Stars

There are two sessions available each night. Choose to go to the show first at 7:30pm, followed by stargazing at 8:30pm. Or, go stargazing first at 8pm, followed by the show at 9pm.

Please note that this is a separate event to the other adults only series, Planetarium Nights, which involves screenings in the Planetarium on Fridays.
