NEW DELHI: Union minister Kiren Rijiju stated that only the Dalai Lama can decide his successor, asserting India's stance against China. The Dalai Lama announced that the Gaden Phodrang Trust has the exclusive authority to identify his future reincarnation. Rijiju highlighted the Dalai Lama's significance for Buddhists worldwide, emphasizing that the decision on his successor rests solely with him and the established conventions.
China disagreed with the Dalai Lama's succession plans, insisting on government approval for the reincarnation of Buddhist figures. Rijiju, a Buddhist, will join the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday celebration in Dharamshala, showing India's support for the Tibetan spiritual leader.
