Federal Constabulary Revamped for National Security, Not a Police Force, Minister Clarifies
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry clarified that the revamped Federal Constabulary (FC) is not a police force but a force aimed at maintaining law and order. The transformation aims to enhance internal and national security by providing support to law enforcement agencies. The restructuring will ensure equal recognition and benefits for FC personnel compared to other security forces in Pakistan.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary emphasized that the revamped Federal Constabulary (FC) is not a police force. President Asif Ali Zardari recently issued an ordinance allowing the transformation of the FC into the Federal Constabulary to enhance law enforcement capabilities and address security needs effectively.
The Frontier Constabulary, initially established for maintaining order in frontier areas, is being restructured to adapt to evolving security challenges like emergencies, civil unrest, and natural disasters.
The reorganization aims to strengthen national defense and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies. The renamed Federal Constabulary will continue its role in combating drug trafficking, supporting civil law enforcement, and ensuring security during critical events.
The jurisdiction of the Federal Constabulary will now cover all provinces and territories, with recruitment open to citizens nationwide. The federal government will bear operational and financial responsibilities, relieving the provinces of budgetary burdens.
While concerns have been raised by opposition parties and human rights groups about potential political misuse, the government asserts that the restructuring is essential for enhancing national security and providing equal benefits to FC personnel.
