Ambassador Kamran Akhtar Elected President of Industrial Development Board

The Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Kamran Akhtar has been elected as President of the 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board. This is the first time Pakistan has been honored with this prestigious position. The Director General of UNIDO congratulated Ambassador Kamran Akhtar and praised Pakistan’s commitment and contribution to the organization. Ambassador Kamran Akhtar expressed his commitment towards enhancing the organization’s role in industrial development, especially in developing countries, LDCs, and SIDS.

The election reflects the trust in Pakistan by UNIDO member states. Pakistan maintains an active diplomatic profile at UNIDO and is dedicated to the organization’s core mandate of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Pakistan has a significant portfolio with UNIDO, with various ongoing and planned projects worth over Euro 350 million. UNIDO has supported sectors like textile, leather, fisheries, food safety, climate action, and renewable energy in Pakistan. Projects like PAIDAR and PAFAID have contributed to poverty alleviation, job creation, and sustainable growth in rural communities. Pakistan is set to launch a new cycle of its Country Partnership Program with UNIDO this year, along with projects in different sectors.
