Malaysia’s Chief Judge of Malaya Hasnah Mohammed Hashim will temporarily assume the role of Chief Justice after the retirement of Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat. The Chief Registrar’s Office of the Federal Court of Malaysia stated that Judge Hasnah will act as Chief Justice until the position is filled.
Both of Malaysia’s top judiciary positions are currently vacant due to the retirements of Tengku Maimun as Chief Justice and Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim as President of the Court of Appeal. Judge Hasnah, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 66 in May, had her term extended by six months by Malaysia’s king.
The Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Abdul Rahman Sebli, is also set to retire this month at the end of his six-month extension.
The Chief Registrar’s Office emphasized the commitment of the Malaysian Judiciary to uphold justice and serve the people and the nation diligently.
