Queensland Crime Victim Rates Drop, Labor Accuses David Crisafulli of Selective Data Use
The LNP government in Queensland claims a decrease in crime victim rates, but the Labor opposition alleges data manipulation by David Crisafulli. The government released statistics showing a nearly 6% drop in crime victims in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

Queensland’s LNP government claims a drop in the state’s victims of crime rate, while the Labor opposition accuses it of cherrypicking data. Premier David Crisafulli pledged to reduce crime victim rates each year of his first term. The government released police stats showing a nearly 6% decrease in crime victim rates in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024.
There were 75,084 victims in the first half of 2024 compared to 72,588 this year, a 5.7% fall adjusted for population growth. Crisafulli said this was a step forward but emphasized the need for further progress.
The data excludes 'other theft' crimes like shoplifting, which make up a significant portion of overall offenses. Crisafulli highlighted reductions in robbery, break-ins, and stolen cars. Labor leader Steven Miles accused the government of selective data presentation.
The new data also showed the impact of a new law banning coercive control, with only 42 registered victims since its enforcement. The government also announced a significant pay increase for police officers.
