Microsoft Edge Introduces AI Copilot Mode for Smarter Browsing Experience

Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Copilot Mode in its Edge browser. This AI-powered tool aims to enhance browsing efficiency by assisting users with common tasks and organizing web activity intelligently. The feature is currently available for a limited time at no cost.

With Copilot Mode, users can receive assistance in activities such as comparing prices across open tabs, making restaurant reservations, or summarizing content from multiple web pages. The tool is accessible on the new tab page and features a chat-like interface where users can input commands via typing or voice. This enables users to utilize voice commands to ask Copilot to search for specific content on a site or open multiple product tabs for comparison.

Microsoft mentions that in the future, Copilot Mode may have the ability to utilize browsing history and saved credentials with user consent. If permitted, it could aid in tasks like form completion or booking directly within the browser.

The company emphasizes that the feature is optional, allowing users to disable Copilot Mode from the Edge settings if preferred. Microsoft ensures users are aware of Copilot's activity through clear visual indicators.

Sean Lyndersay, vice president of product for Microsoft Edge, states, \"Copilot will soon assist in guiding tasks and organizing browsing activities into useful, topic-based journeys. Users can easily enable or disable the experience through Edge settings. Those opting out of Copilot Mode can continue browsing on Edge as usual.\"

Microsoft indicates that this new mode is experimental and will undergo enhancements. There are indications that the feature might transition to a paid model in the future, as usage limits exist even during the trial period.

This launch coincides with the trend of tech companies integrating AI tools to enhance browsing experiences. Google is testing AI-assisted search in Chrome, while new browsers like Comet from Perplexity AI are introducing similar features.
