Two men have been arrested after a car crashed into a care home, putting eight people in hospital. The incident occurred when a blue BMW was reported stolen in Newcastle and later collided with the Highcliffe Care Home in Sunderland. Emergency services responded, and all residents and staff were safely evacuated. Eight residents were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The building was evacuated, and temporary accommodation was provided for residents.

One 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle, with a second man also arrested for theft of a motor vehicle. An investigation is ongoing, and both men are in police custody. Chief Superintendent Mark Hall of Northumbria Police thanked the emergency services for their support and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The road has since been reopened, and authorities are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
