Texas Families Seek Information on Missing Girls from Flood-Hit Summer Camp
Parents in Texas are desperately searching for over 20 girls missing from an all-girls summer camp after floods struck the region. Camp Mystic, a Christian camp in Hunt, Texas, reported that around 23 girls were unaccounted for as search teams work to rescue them from the floodwaters. Texas parents posted photos of their daughters on social media as over 20 campers from an all-girls summer camp in Texas were missing after floods hit the region. At least 13 people were dead and many missing after heavy rain fell in Texas Hill Country. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick mentioned about 23 missing girls from Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas. Search teams were conducting rescues in the floodwaters.
Texas Game Wardens were evacuating campers from Camp Mystic. Families were anxious as some children were not located. Camp officials assured parents that their child was safe if not contacted directly. Families gathered at a reunification center hoping to see their loved ones.
Camp Mystic is in a flood-prone area known as 'flash flood alley.' In 1987, a similar incident led to the drowning of campers from another camp. Camp Mystic is currently without power, Wi-Fi, and running water. Other nearby camps reported all campers and staff were safe.
A former counselor expressed sadness over the missing girls and the impact on Camp Mystic, a place known for building confidence in young girls. The camp, established in 1926, is a cherished place for many.
