Four Women Facing Life Sentences for Attempted Cocaine Smuggling at Australian Airport

Four women, including two teens, are facing potential life imprisonment after being accused of attempting to smuggle 30kg of cocaine wrapped in vinegar and chilli-soaked towels into Australia. The Australian Federal Police reported that two 18-year-olds arrived from Hong Kong to Brisbane on Thursday and were intercepted by Australian Border Force officers at the airport. The officers discovered 30 bricks of cocaine concealed in the towels inside four suitcases. The two 18-year-olds were charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled substance.
Additionally, two more women, aged 23 and 21, who allegedly provided instructions on acquiring passports, airline tickets, and accommodation, were also arrested. They were charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug. All four women appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court, where one of the 18-year-olds was denied bail and the other three were granted conditional bail. The maximum penalty for these offenses is life imprisonment.
