World Champion D Gukesh won the rapid section of the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz tournament in Zagreb, Croatia. The 19-year-old Indian grandmaster scored 14 out of 18 points, showcasing sharp preparation, mental resilience, and consistent performance across the three-day event, part of the 2025 Grand Chess Tour.

Gukesh had a shaky start but bounced back with five consecutive wins, including a victory over World No.1 Magnus Carlsen. He maintained the top position on the leaderboard until the end, defeating American Grandmaster Wesley So in the final round.

In the final leg of the rapid segment, Gukesh had a draw against Anish Giri and a grueling 87-move draw against Croatian player Ivan Saric. Jan-Krzysztof Duda finished second, while Carlsen's chances were dented with a draw in the following round.
